Dexcom Follow 4.5 App Update: New Features and Enhancements
Dexcom recently released Follow 4.5, an update of the Dexcom Follow app for Canadian users. This update includes four new enhancements we're excited to share. These include:
- New Apple watch app and complication.
- Android quick glance.
- Landscape view to show trend arrows.
- Service status page link.
Detailed info on these updates can be found below.
Apple Watch Compatibility & Complication
Followers can now have the Dexcom Follow app on their Apple Watch (watchOS 6 or later required). A new watch complication has also been added that allows users to open Dexcom Follow directly from the watch face.
With these new Apple Watch updates, followers of a Dexcom G6 user, such as parents of small children or caregivers of elderly people living with diabetes, can see shared Dexcom data on their watch, at a glance. Shared glucose data is displayed automatically, so followers are kept informed of any changes in glucose levels.

Android Quick Glance
Followers using Android devices will now be able to see their Sharer’s sensor readings in their Notification Drawer.
To turn Follow Quick Glance on:
- Follow Menu > Quick Glance
- Toggle Quick Glance on
- Select a Sharer to display
To turn Follow Quick Glance off:
- Follow Menu> Quick Glance
- Toggle Quick Glance off
With this new Android update, followers of a Dexcom G6 user can see shared Dexcom data quickly by quickly swiping down from the top of their phone and opening the notification drawer. Shared glucose data is displayed in real-time, so followers are kept informed of any changes in glucose levels.
New Trend Arrows in Landscape View
Followers will now be able to see trend arrows for a specific data point in landscape view and not just the Dexcom G6 user’s estimated glucose value (EGV). This will give followers more situational context when reviewing trend data in landscape mode, as the new arrow feature shows the direction glucose levels were trending at that given moment.
Status Page Link
Lastly, Dexcom Follow 4.5 also includes a service status page link, which provides up-to-date information on the current status of any Dexcom system. This is helpful for users who want to troubleshoot or track data disruptions. For example, if a Dexcom server is down, or if the Follow app is not connecting, users can then check back later to see if the issue has been resolved.
Stay Up to Date with Dexcom Follow 4.5
The Dexcom Follow app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Healthcare providers can help people living with diabetes get the most out of their Dexcom system by reminding them to update their apps regularly.
